The Hero’s Heart

The heart of a hero,

Belongs to every man,

To every man,

Who would die for a friend.

To every man,

Who would lay down his life,

To protect his children & defend his wife.

Though it may come at a price,

Perhaps even the ultimate toll,

To save her soul,

In place of his own,

He’d pay it all, even death,

A soul for a soul.

The heart of a hero,

Belongs to every man,

To every man,

Who would sacrifice his life,

Who would do it once & who would do it twice,

To roll the dice,

Against a blade, sword, gun, or knife.

The heart of a hero,

Is not reserved for movie stars,

Nor preserved by heroes who are,

Genetic like Spider-Man,

Rich like Batman,

Or armed like Iron Man.

No, it belongs to every man,

To every man,

Who would run into the unknown, the wild,

To save his baby, daughter, & child.

To every man,

Who would rush into a burning house,

To rescue his spouse.

Surely a risk, no doubt,

The hero may not survive,

Live to see the sun, & walk out.

The hero’s heart,

Is available to every man.

He doesn’t need permission.

He need only be willing, brave, loving, & courageous,

Then he would have a hero’s heart,

And he’d be just as heroic, as any Hollywood part.
