Boyhood Hero

In boyhood-

The child plays.

Toy guns & bullets,

Dragons, he slays.

Two years ‘til ten,

In battles, he prays.

He knows not age,

Yet spirit calls him,

Of warriors & lions,

Of heroic fights,

Great wars & trials.

Time turns twenty,

He works a job,

Pays bills & taxes.

Desk full of paper,

No soldiers, no axes.

He now knows age,

Yet spirit still calls him,

The boyhood hero,

Now buried deep inside him.

“Awake, awake!

You sleeping giant!

Your soul, your hero -

That same spirit, you know!”

Thirty years, now thirty,

The boy became man,

The man became warrior,

The warrior came alive,

The man, behold, has been revived.

He’s the boyhood hero.
