Wilderness

Father,
I’m lost at sea.
Traveling the desert,
There’s no path I see.
I’m disoriented, surrounded by trees.
In circles, I walk, as predators creep.
There’s no horizon, direction, or open road.
Walls at every turn, & doors are shut closed.
I’m in darkness & snow, with no lantern to glow.
Father,
Where are you? So distant, you feel.
My stomach aches, starving, for a meal.
My feet blister, my legs wither,
My strength fades by day.
Lord hear my call, Lord hear me pray.
I have rebelled,
I have fallen, & I have gone astray.
Lord, forgive me!
I have sinned, & I am in dismay.
I am nothing but dust,
I am broken, chock-full of rust.
Lord, I am rotting, I am wasting away.
I am at fault, & I am in decay.
Lord hear my call, Lord hear me pray.
Father,
I’m not worthy to be called your son,
Take me as a lowly servant,
For there’s nothing honorable that I have done.
But then He responded,
The Father shouted in elate,
“Let us eat and celebrate.
For this my son was dead, and is alive again;
He was lost, and is found.”
By Christs sacrifice, we are renowned.
& by His love, we have been crowned.
By His compassion, we have been redeemed.
& by His glory, we have been set free.
Out of the wilderness,
Out of the darkness,
The Lord brought us back in,
Back in the family, to our home again.
